Singing bakers from Norway

Children become real bakers with this song, which is fun and easy to sing. The children can decide for themselves how the song should be sung. In this video, several Norwegian teachers show the movements that accompany the song. It can be easily translated to English.

Start singing the whole song. Ask one of the children to choose which sentence should be left out and sing the whole song again. As soon as you come to the song that should be left out, you only sing the first word(s) of the sentence (the words in bold). Ask one of the other children to choose which second phrase should be left out and repeat the song. Repeat the song until only the small words are left. Don't forget to make the movements to the song, even if you don't sing the words!

Og vi skyver skuffen inn,

And we close the drawer.

Act as if you close a drawer.

og vi trekker skuffen ut

And we open the drawer.

Act as if you open a drawer.

og røyken stiger høyt mot sky

And the smoke spirals into the sky.

Move your right finger up in a spiral.

For nedi byen bor en baker

For there lives a baker downtown.

Point your right finger to the ground.

Han baker mange fine kaker

He bakes a lot of delicious cakes.

Clap your hands as if you make a bread roll: first your right hand in your left hand and then your left hand in your right hand.

Og røyken stiger høyt mot sky!

And the smoke spirals into the sky.

Move your right finger up in a spiral.
